I was listening to the news this morning while getting ready to visit a shut-in. The lady was talking to two politicians about the deficit and taxes; one was a democrat and one a republican. Each of them allowed that deficits and high taxes were bad for the country and this set me to thinking. I know it is dangerous to put such pressure on a small brain like mine but the more I thought about our nation’s problems, the clearer the answer became and I would like to share my conclusion with you. Here goes; if both parties think deficits and high taxes are bad, why in the Sam Hill don’t they agree not to have them? I mean, the politicians are in charge, aren’t they? If they agreed to do away with them, wouldn’t they be done away with? One would think so, but obviously my conclusion is wrong. We have deficits, high taxes, inflation, and wars going on in two countries because that is what they want us to have. Politicians created these problems and now they campaign against them. What a con game!
Mark Twain was right when he said, “The only truly criminal class is Congress.”
They are not fooling me anymore. Of course, I know who the real culprit is and that is the part that hurts the worst; it is us. We have known for a decade or more we were heading in the wrong direction and just kept on being a democrat or a republican and voted for our own selfish interests. I hope our grandchildren forgive us.
Honestly, I believe things have gone so far over the edge now that there is only one way back and that is to dig through the bottom of this hole we are in and try to reach China with a direct line. Look, if the government had given us peons the trillions it gave Wall Street, there would have been an economic boom such as the world had never seen. China couldn’t make all the junk we would have bought. There aren’t enough ships in the world to haul it from there to here. Detroit couldn’t make enough Escalades to fill the demand there would have been. Of course, the boom would have eventually gone bust when the money ran out but I am sure we could have gotten the politicians to give us another stimulus and just kept the ball rolling; especially if the need had arisen at re-election time.
I am joking, of course. Not bailing out the Wall Street bankers would mean they would have gone out of business and then had to go out and get a real job and we all know an honest day’s work would kill nearly every last one of those sapsuckers. The same goes for most politicians.
On a lighter note: I don’t have much to do now because my land auction business is slow. This gives me time to visit folks that I know are sick or just getting old. I get a laugh out of this visitation business sometimes when I purposely visit someone who, for no good reason, does not like me. They may not be happy when I drive up but they sure are happy when I leave. It does my heart good to spread such cheer around, (Proverbs 25:22).
My Mother still gets on to me every so often just to keep me humble. She told me just the other day that people might think ill of me because of some of the things I write. I told her and I am telling you that, “you wouldn’t worry so much about what other people think of you if you knew how seldom they do.” (Book of Vickers 44:40)
One other thing I have learned in life, Momma; I don’t have to attend every argument I am invited to. (Book of Vickers 30:06)
