Dear Editor,
(The following is a piece written by the Rev. John Hagee that I would like to share with your readers. Thank you Keith Wiggins.)
Psalm 33:12 says, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.”
The Secrets to America’s Survival
Psalm 9:17 says, “All nations that forget God are turned into hell.”
Dear Friends,
Thousands of years ago, the Prophet Haggai recorded a warning from God to the nations of the world. He said, “Once more I’m going to shake the heaven and the earth, the sea and dry land… I will shake all nations.”
Were you there on 9/11? Did you watch endless newsreels recording the actions of a few radical Muslims as they flew commercial airliners into the World Trade Center? Eleven years ago we watched as horror unfolded before our very eyes… hundreds leaping to their deaths to avoid the flames. We watched as the Twin Towers collapsed into a giant heap of rubble as almost 3000 Americans lost their lives in an instant.
Americans began to run down the streets of New York, doing their best to out-run the giant billows of smoke that were saturating the air for miles around. This was America’s wake up call!! This was the Church’s wake-up call! Our sense of invincibility was crushed in one split second. Could it happen again? Yes! And the effects this time could be much worse.
Haggai’s prophetic words came to my mind as I watched the horrific scenes play out on my television screen. “I will shake all the nations.” We were powerless in that moment to stop these brutal attacks. But did 9/11 change us? Did we turn to God with prayer and fasting? Did we forsake our godless lifestyles and return to righteousness? No!
We were emotional for a few brief days. Congress even did the unheard of and sang, “God Bless America” on the Capitol steps… just before heading back inside to pick up where they left off… fighting amongst themselves in a political gridlock. America was united for the briefest of moments. We did not heed the wake-up call that God sent our way. We did not change our behavior and seek God’s face.
Instead, some cities reported a 467% increase in violent crimes. The state and federal prisons saw a 463% increase. The suicide rate for teens has since doubled, and there has been a ten-fold increase in unmarried couples living together. This is not the picture of one nation under God.
Since 1973 we have murdered 53 million babies in abortion clinics scattered across our nation. Homosexual marriage has been endorsed by the president of the United States, and ordained by churches.
1 Corinthians 6 says, “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God?” This means that if you are not following God’s plan you are not going to heaven. Let me make this very clear. Everyone talking about heaven is not going!
Psalm 33:12 says, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,” Psalm 9:17 also says, “All nations that forget God are turned into hell.”
Businesses are failing everywhere you turn. Hundreds of thousands of unemployed. Homes across the country are being foreclosed upon at an alarming rate. Our national debt is now $16 trillion, a staggering number by any standards. We must realize that a return to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is our only hope!
In the spring of 2010, eight in ten Americans said they feared the U.S. economy would completely collapse, while nearly half of all citizens feared we are headed for a repeat of the Great Depression. The majority agree that we are on the wrong track, headed over an economic cliff… that this could be the beginning of the end of our once great nation.
Even our leaders are calling this a dark day for our country, perhaps the darkest we have ever seen. Certainly the most difficult struggle between right and wrong I have ever witnessed in my lifetime. This is crunch time, America!
2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
What did our forefathers do when America was in crisis? Did they sing a quick song and then jump back into political chaos? No! When America looked like she was about to come crashing down like a house of cards the Continental Congress was asked by Benjamin Franklin to fall on their knees and ask Almighty God for divine guidance. The key that unlocked the answers for America was prayer.
Why should we pray? Because God not only hears us when we pray but He answers our prayers. The Bible says to call upon His holy name and He will show us great and mighty things, which we know not. These are answers that we cannot come up with outside of asking God for help. God does not need America, but America desperately needs God. Our nation needs to be healed of racial division and political hatred. We need to remember what it means to be united again.
What did George Washington do when it looked like the American Revolution was lost? At the time, he was leading a rag-tag bunch of farmers with pitchforks against the British Army, notably the finest in the world at that time. Washington’s fan club was calling for him to be fired. Even worse, Washington knew that a large number of his volunteers would return home at the first of the year and he (along with his officers) would be hung by King George. The quick glance over his future calendar looked bleak indeed.
And what did George do when his life, his reputation and his sacred honor were all on the line? He knelt in the snow and prayed to Almighty God. I’m sure you have seen the pictures that have been painted of this magnificent scene. I have the very same one hanging in my office. It was a brilliant patriotic moment.
Washington knew then what America needs to realize today. When we are at our weakest, God is at the top of His game. We can never have a stronger army than when God is on our side. For if God be for us, who can be against us?
After this snowy prayer, Washington’s spirit was invigorated by the Holy Spirit. He shook off the stinging criticism of his peers and did not let fear crush him. Instead he gifted his command staff with tokens that read, “Victory or death!” As the enemy approached once again, this hungry band of farmers crossed the Delaware River and won the fight in a matter of minutes. Why? Because when push came to shove, their leader cried out to Almighty God for assistance. The fight and fury of the American dream was born on a snow-covered battlefield when one man dared to pray. Let it happen again in America today!
Our forefathers did not seek to appease the enemy. Appeasement is defeat on the installment plan. America is now appeasing Russia, China and Iran at Israel’s expense. It is time for America to once again be a strong support system for Israel! Our government would do well to remember that He who keepeth Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps. There is an eye in the sky that will pay us back in spades for all of our misdeeds to Israel. If we do not wake up and repent, we have a harsh judgment day coming for America!
Do you feel defeated? Pray? Are you surrounded on every side? Pray! Are you desperate for a personal victory in your life? Pray! The only way to land on your feet is to get down on your knees! As you pray for your own personal needs and the needs of your loved ones, please join me in praying for our nation. May we return to one nation under God, and may God arise and may his enemies be scattered!
Because of His Commission,
