The Appling County schools will be conducting a canned food drive on Friday, Oct. 26 at all area schools. The canned goods will be brought to the school by the students in the morning and left in trucks supplied by countywide youth pastors at each school. The 4-H classes will be participating and will collect canned goods throughout the week in their classrooms. This will be on the Friday that concludes “Red Ribbon” week for the schools.
The canned goods will be donated to the Appling County Food Bank in preparation for the November distribution.
Typically, November is one of the busiest months for the Food Bank.
Last year in November the Food Bank served 247 households with 21,166 pounds of food at a cost of $4,011.35. This canned food donation will offset the need to purchase food and allow shelved goods for those who qualify.
