The Appling County Pirates (6-1-1 overall, 4-1 Region 1-AAA) traveled to Savannah on Friday, October 19 to face the Beach Bulldogs (1-6, 1-3) at Grayson Stadium, home of the Savannah Sand Gnats. The Pirates were able to get the win 49-14 in the first matchup ever between the two teams.
The Pirates will host the Tattnall County Battle Creek Warriors (4-3, 3-1) on Senior Night at Jimmy Swain Stadium on Friday, October 26 with the game scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
Tattnall is coming off a bye week after defeating Beach 58-6 on October 12. The Warriors lone region loss came to Pierce County (7-1, 5-0), 36-67 on September 28. The Pirates defeated the Warriors 32-23 last season.
Scoring Recap
Pirate Justin Moore was able to get the Pirate’s first score on a 61-yard touchdown run with 50 seconds remaining in the first quarter to make the score, with the extra point by Israel Jaramillo, 7-0.
Pirate Vernon Dasher, in his first game back after a leg injury, scored the Pirate’s second touchdown on a seven-yard run to make the score, with Jaramillo adding the extra point, 14-0 with 9:19 left in the second quarter.
The Pirates next score came on a nine-yard touchdown run by Maurice Paulk to make the score 21-0 with 3:53 left in the second quarter.
Pirate Trey Newkirk intercepted a Bulldog pass and returned it 70-yards for a touchdown to make the score 28-0 with nine seconds remaining in the second quarter.
Pirate Brandon Horton recovered a Bulldog fumble on the ensuing kickoff to set up a 39-yard touchdown pass from Dasher to Newkirk to make the score at halftime 35-0.
The Pirate’s next score came on a 71-yard touchdown pass from Dasher to Jordan Vann to make the score 42-0 with 11:33 remaining in the third quarter.
Pirate Jason Dhaliwal added the Pirate’s next score on a 10-yard touchdown run to make the score 49-0 with 3:12 remaining in the third quarter.
The Bulldogs added two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, a one-yard run and a 30-yard pass, and a two-point conversion against the Pirate backups to make the final score 49-14.
