The Eagles will now face a tough opponent, the Kings Way Crusaders, of Douglasville, on November 2 for the Georgia Christian Athletic Association’s State Championship. Appling Christian handed the Crusaders their only loss of the regular season on October 5 in a close game that ended with the Eagles on top 34-26. This will be the game of the year for both teams and should prove to be a fight to the finish. Since the Eagles defeated Kings Way during the regular season, ACA will have home field advantage. Again the game is scheduled for November 2 and kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Eagle Field. All fans are encouraged to attend this important game and cheer the Eagles on to another State Championship.
Eagles versus Challengers
It was Senior Night Friday at Eagle Field and prior to the start of the game three ACA senior football players were honored. The three seniors honored by Head Coach Keith Wiggins were Andrew Phillips, Dallas Johnson and Zach Carter.
Following the festivities, the Eagles went to work handing the Shiloh Hills Challengers a defeat. In the first quarter of play the Eagle defense played strong forcing multiple turnovers and punts. The Eagle offense got its first score around the 4:38 mark in the first quarter when running back Andrew Phillips darted eight yards to score. Big Dallas Johnson plowed his way through the Challengers defensive line to add the two-point conversion and the score was 8-0.
On the next Challengers possession, from their own 28-yard line, the Eagle defense forced a fumble and recovered at the Shiloh Hills nine-yard line. It only took one play for the Eagles to find the end zone as quarterback Cole Livingston connected with receiver Zach Carter for a nine-yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion was no good and the score with 3:32 remaining in the first quarter was 14-0.
It didn’t take very long for the Eagles to find the end zone again as Eagle defender Daniel Beasley intercepted a pass from the Challenger quarterback and scampered 49 yards for another Eagle touchdown. Eagle quarterback Cole Livingston connected with Cameron Carter for the two-point conversion and the score with 33 seconds remaining in the first quarter was 22-0.
Early in the second quarter running back Andrew Phillips found an opening created by that big ACA offensive line and ran 68 yards for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was no good and the score at the 9:16 mark was 28-0.
On the Eagles next offensive possession, Cole Livingston completed an impressive 51-yard drive with a nine-yard quarterback keeper. He also added the two-point conversion to make the score, with 4:44 remaining before the halftime break, 36-0. The score would remain unchanged until the third quarter.
In the third quarter the Eagle offense hit pay dirt again when Andrew Phillips darted 10 yards for a touchdown to complete a 65-yard drive by the home team. The two- point attempt was no good and the score was 42-0 with 4:50 remaining in the third quarter.
The final score of the evening was near the 8:40 mark in the fourth quarter. Fullback Dallas Johnson drove the ball across the goal line from one-yard out. This capped a 45-yard drive for the Eagles. The two-point conversion was no good and the final score was 48-0.
