A “GHOST OUT” is an alcohol and drug awareness program aimed at teenagers because traffic crashes are the number one killer of teens and over one-third of teen traffic deaths are alcohol-related (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).
On October 26, Appling County High School Students will be participating in a “Ghost Out” under the direction of Amy Rediger from the Appling County Family Connections and our local Safe Families Committee.
This project is to bring awareness to teen issues such as texting, drinking, or drugging while driving. Every 30 minutes, a teenager in the US dies in an alcohol related car crash (approx. 340 alcohol-related traffic deaths per week).
A crash car and coffin will also be placed at the entrance to the school building to create awareness amongst the students.
Three tips to protect yourself and your teenagers from alcohol related crashes:
1. Do not drink and drive (it is illegal to purchase and/or consume alcohol under 21 years of age.)
2. Never ride with a driver who has been drinking or is under the influence of drugs.
3. ALWAYS wear your seat belts: Seat belts are your #1 defense against a drunk driver.
DON’T LET YOUR CAR RIDE BE YOUR LAST………
