During the regularly scheduled meeting of the Appling County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, October 2, members of the Baxley-Appling County Hospital Authority shared information about the financial status and improvements of the hospital. CEO Dale Spell informed the commissioners that the hospital was recently able to purchase two ambulances, with the oldest ambulance now running being a 2006 model. Spell also stated that the authority was considering the purchase of a fifth ambulance to be used only for out of town deliveries to cut down on mileage and take advantage of five-year warranties due to the mileage decrease.

Information was also shared that the new computer system is scheduled to be up and running by June 2013. Spell informed the commissioners that the hospital is approximately $5.5 million ahead of last year, but added that a lot work is still left to be done.
Other business
A motion was made by Commissioner Charlie Leggett, with a second from Commissioner Theodore, to prepare bid documents for the new T-ball fields and gymnasium renovation projects. The motion was approved unanimously. Commissioner Ronnie Rentz was not in attendance.
An automatic aid agreement that would have the two nearest fire stations called out to any house fire when the home is more than five miles away from their primary fire station or according to zones set by the ISO was approved. The agreement allows those now rated a ten to come down to an eight(b). A motion was made by Commissioner Sarah Boatright to approve the agreement with a second by Leggett.
A motion was made by Wilkerson to approve the low bid of $1,600.00, submitted by Sarah’s in the City, for the catering of the 2012 Firefighter Banquet. A second to the motion was made by Leggett and was approved with Boatright abstaining. There were two bids submitted.
