Rufus Grant Devereaux, 81, died Monday, March 21, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Devereaux was born in Appling County November 21, 1929 and had resided here most of his life. He was the son of the late Milton C. Devereaux and the late Evelyn Todd Devereaux. He was a retired lineman for Jacksonville Electric Authority and had served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Gyitha Devereaux of Surrency; one daughter, Guelda (John) Cohee of Callahan, FL; two sons, M. L. (Mariann) Devereaux of Jacksonville Beach, FL and La Vaughn Devereaux of Screven; grandchildren: Angie (Charles) Crosby, Justin (Courtney) Devereaux, Jessie Devereaux and Ryan Cohee; step-daughter, Diane (Mike) Luke of Surrency; one step-son, Andrew (Linda) Griffin of Laural, MD; step-grandchildren, Tiffany (Dusty) Allen of Savannah, Sarina Moore and Brian Smith of PA; one sister, Imogene Lamb of Jesup; one brother, Bobby (Ruth) Devereaux of Callahan, FL; great-grandchildren, Colby and Kaley Crosby; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 22 in the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Rowell and the Rev. Justin Devereaux officiating. Burial will follow at a later date.
Musical selections were rendered by Diane Luke and the Rev. Carl Rowell.
