Eason reunion slated
The descendants of Abraham Eason (1782-1843) and Ceila Spence Eason will hold a family reunion Saturday, September 22. The reunion will be held on the same ground where Abraham Eason and his few neighbors built the first Methodist church in Appling County, over 182 years ago. Abraham Eason served as the pastor for the newly established church for several years. Bethel remains to this date a very active church.
Bethel United Methodist Church is located on Bethel Church Road off Georgia Highway 144, 13 miles southeast of Baxley.
Make your plans to attend and ask other family members to attend with you. Come home to your family ‘roots’ and walk the grounds, enjoy good food and fellowship with other relatives and friends.
Please try to arrive by 4:00 p.m. for fellowship and dinner at 5:30 p.m. Those attending who live near by are asked to bring a basket dinner large enough to share with those traveling long distances. All utensils and drinks will be provided.
This year an auction is planned to help fund the cost of maintaining the family cemetery. Please bring an item of your choice, such as an old family picture, a souvenir, baked goods, etc. or anything to contribute to the auction. Hope this auction will be heart warming and a fun activity.
Following dinner a memorial service will be conducted for those who passed away since the last reunion. If you had any deaths in your family, please send or bring this information with you to the reunion.
A family business meeting is scheduled following the memorial service.
The Eason Family Cemetery: We have 23 old wood headmarkers with brass nameplates that have decayed to the extent they are no longer readable. Replacement granite stone plates for the 23 head markers have been ordered with a promised delivery before the reunion. Funds need to be raised to cover cemetery maintenance for years 2013, 2014 and 2015.
If you are unable to attend the reunion, please mail your family contribution to help maintain the old family cemetery - the first and oldest cemetery in Appling County. Your contribution of $50, $100 or $250 or more will be greatly appreciated and needed. All funds received in excess of the stated needs above will be held and designated for future years.
