The Baxley-Appling County Hospital Authority met for a regular monthly meeting on August 27. Attending the meeting were members Jesse Alderman, Mark Barnes, Lisa Courson, John Glenn, Virginia Herrington, Peggy Miles, Jeffery Simmons and Carolyn Wade. Staff in attendance included CEO Dale Spell, CFO Ray Leadbetter, Director of Nursing Mertia Hinnant, Administrator of the Pavilion Melba Webb and Authority/Medical Staff Coordinator Tina Johnson.
Chairperson Peggy Miles called the meeting to order 5:30 p.m. and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Virginia Herrington rendered the invocation. Minutes and financials were presented. Monthly reports were presented from administration/operations, nursing and long term care. Items of interest to the community were as follows:
System will lease two new ambulances
- Committee appointments were made for the 2012 – 2013 board year. It was determined that a strategic planning meeting will be scheduled for the fall.
- On August 14 the Medical/Surgical and ICU Departments went live with computerized charting (electronic medical records). It was reported that all is going well with the implementation and thus far the system has met each deadline on time.
- The authority voted to lease to own two new ambulances that will replace two vehicles that are in the current fleet of four. It has become necessary to replace these two vehicles due to recent mechanical problems. Having reliable vehicles in the fleet is paramount to providing quality care for the community, according to the health care system. Jimmy Twiggs, EMS Director, provided the following information concerning the two ambulances to be replaced. One is a 2001 with 190,000 miles and the other is a 2006 with 108,000 miles. EMS averages 1,850 patient contacts annually, including 375 out of town transfers with approximately 68,000 travel/response miles for the department per year. The two remaining vehicles will be a 2006 and a 2009. The system anticipates taking deliver of the new ambulances within thirty days.
