Sheriff Benny Deloach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
Aug. 10, answered a call to Eula Courson Road in reference to elderly abuse/battery. The complainant stated two subjects came to her residence and tried to take her medications from her and bruised her arm. The subjects left the residence before the officer arrived. The Appling EMS was notified and treatment was refused. The responding officer notified Division of Aging Services. Investigation continues.
Aug. 11, answered a call to Ellis Jones Lane in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated he went by to check on his property after being out of town and found someone had vandalized the home by breaking the windows and damaging the front door. Investigation continues.
Aug. 11, answered a call to Live Oak Lane in reference to loud music. A call was received to residence in reference to loud music. After the officers responded to the residence a second time the subjects agreed to turn the music off for the night.
Aug. 12, a routine traffic stop at North Side Park resulted in the arrest of Rodney Dewayne Hall, 27, of Baxley. Hall was charged with public drunkenness and obstruction of an officer.
Aug. 12, a routine traffic stop on U.S. Highway 1 South resulted in the arrest of Ruthie Mae Burke, 47, of Douglas. Burke was found to be en route to Georgia State Prison, Reidsville, to drop off contraband to inmates. Burke was charged with drugs to be kept in original container, crossing guard lines with drugs and communication devices and trading with inmates.
Aug. 13, answered a call to East Hart Street/Surrency in reference to harassing phone calls. A complainant stated her ex-friend continues to call her and send harassing text messages.
Aug. 13, a complainant came to the Appling County Sheriff’s Office to report a child custody dispute. The complainant stated he has custody of his child and the mother of the child continues to make threats against him.
Aug. 13, answered a call to Smart Road in reference to a dispute. A complainant stated he and another subject had an altercation. The subject had left the residence before officer arrived.
Aug. 13, answered a call to Pearce Road/Surrency in reference to harassment. A complainant stated her ex-boyfriend is stalking her and will not leave her alone.
Aug. 13, answered a call to Appling ER in reference to an overdose. A subject stated he had taken medication that belonged to his mother and did not realize that he had taken an overdose.
Aug. 13, answered a call to Branch Road in reference to a home invasion. A female subject stated two males entered her residence at gunpoint and took money from her. The Appling EMS responded to check on the complainant. An investigation led to the arrest of the Jennifer Hayes, 48, of Baxley, and charged with a felony charge of false statements.
Aug. 14, answered a call to Jekyll Road in reference to a found grenade. The complainant stated while cleaning his shop he found a grenade in a bucket that seemed to be intact. Officers responded to the location to confirm the find. The GBI Bomb Disposal team was contacted and came to the location to render the device safe.
Aug. 14, answered a call to Nail Road in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated someone had entered her residence and stole money from her wallet.
Aug. 15, answered a call to Highway 15 South in reference to stolen property. The complainant stated a former employee had taken several items valued at approximately $2,600.00. Investigation continues.
Aug. 16, answered a call to George Craven Road in reference to thefts. Two complainants stated that while staying at the residence person(s) had entered their vehicles and taken several items. Investigation continues.
Aug. 16, answered a call to Pickett Road in reference to a domestic dispute. A girlfriend and a boyfriend had a dispute, which led to an altercation. The boyfriend had left the residence before officer arrived.
Aug. 16, Answered a call to Blarney Road in reference to damage to property. The complainant stated he found that an unknown person had fired six shots into his utility building penetrating the building and a refrigerator. Investigation continues.
