The 4-H Club held its annual recipe contest on Feb. 22. The 4-H MilkMake Recipe Contest is offered to fifth and sixth grade 4-H’ers. Appling County had a total of 88 4-H’ers who turned in a recipe.
The objectives of the contest are to develop skills for utilizing milk creatively and to acquire knowledge of the nutritional value and versatility of milk.

4-H’ers win “Milkmake Recipe Contest” on Feb. 22
The 4-H’ers were to make their favorite milkshake and submit the recipe to be judged. 4-H’ers were encouraged to be creative in making their milkshakes. The only rules were that the ingredients had to be edible, and that the 4-H’er and another person had taste it.
The written recipes were judged and the top ten finalists were chosen.
These 4-H’ers participated in the milkshake making contest at the Extension Education Center. The recipes were judged on Nutrition, Appeal, Creativity, Flavor, and Technique/Presentation.
The ten finalists were: Kaley Carter, Tasia Carter, Carter Cauley, Samuel Hughes, Gracie Lewis, Harley Lightsey, Alexis Moore, Gabe Music, Morgan Padgett and Amber Smith.
The top three winning milkshake recipes were Harley Lightsey, Gabe Music, and Morgan Padgett. These 4-H’ers received a MilkMake T-shirt.
The MilkMake recipe contest is co-sponsored by Georgia 4-H and the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association. Congratulations to the finalists and the winners.

Senior 4-H’er, Katlyn Hall and Junior 4-H’er, Hannah Hughes helped by assisting the 4-H’ers in the kitchen.
