This past Friday, August 17 the Eagles of Appling Christian Academy played their second game of the 2012 season against the Hurricanes of Coastal Christian. Coastal Christian won the toss and selected to receive. The Eagle defense shut the Hurricane offense down without allowing a yard and forced the Hurricanes to punt.
On the first play of the Eagle offensive drive, Andrew Phillips broke through the line for a 25-yard rushing touchdown. Dallas Johnson plowed his way over the goal line for the two-point conversion.
The Eagle defense stood strong on the Hurricanes second offensive drive, which resulted in a 55-yard interception by Phillips. The Eagles drove the ball down the field and scored once again. The two-point conversion was no good and the score was 14-0 with 1:23 left in the first quarter.
On the ensuing kickoff the Hurricanes broke a long return for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was no good and the score was 14-6 with 1:10 left in first quarter.
On the next drive the Eagles drove the ball down the field resulting in a 10-yard quarterback scamper by Cole Livingston. Johnson once again plowed through the line for a two-point conversion. The score was now 22-6 with 11:49 left in the second quarter.
The Hurricanes next drive ended quick with another Phillips interception. It didn’t take long for the Eagle offense to strike again. Daniel Beasley broke through the line for a stunning 30-yard touchdown. The two-point conversion was not good. The score was 28-6.
Once again the Hurricane offense was shut down with a third interception by Phillips, which was returned for a touchdown. Livingston kept the ball and crossed the goal line resulting in a two-point conversion. The score with 7:59 left in second quarter was 36-6. Both teams couldn’t get another score in the second quarter. The score remained the same 35-6 at the half.
On the third play of the third quarter the Eagle offensive line opened a hole for Phillips resulting in a 25-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion was good making the score 44-6 with 11:59 left in the third quarter with 19 second left in the third the Hurricanes scored on a passing touchdown and failing to get the two-point conversion the score at the end of the third was 44-12.
The Eagle offense got the ball to start the fourth quarter. Unfortunately the Hurricanes forced a fumble resulting in a turn over for the Eagles. The Eagle defense once again shut the Hurricane offense down with the second string offense in the game, the Eagles scored on a 15-yard run resulting in a touchdown. The two-point conversion was good. The final score was 52-12.
The Eagles will face Westside Academy, of Warner Robins, on Friday, August 24 at Eagle Field. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. Come out and support the Eagles.
