The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department over the past few days.
July 18 at approximately 5:08 p.m., met with a resident at a Fair Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that they hired and paid a subject to do some work for them, and he hadn’t done it, and that this has been going on for a while. After an investigation, Cecil Lewis Nails, Jr., 40, of Baxley, was arrested on charges of one count each of probation of elder adults, theft by conversion and theft by deception.

July 21 at approx. 8:53 a.m., met with the manager at Donnie Lewis Tire and Brake in reference to forgery. On arrival the manager said she had paid a subject for some scrap metal with a check. When the check came back to the business she discovered the amount had been changed. After an investigation Christopher Farley Norman, 20, of Baxley, was charged with one count of forgery in the fourth degree.
July 24 at approx. 1:23 a.m., answered a call to a Mauldin Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that her sister was having trouble with her boyfriend, and was staying at her house. The resident told officers that she was away, and her sister texted her that her boyfriend was in the house and was in her bedroom, where he stayed for awhile and then left. During which the resident called someone to go over and check on her sister’s welfare. On the arrival of a neighbor, he saw the boyfriend coming out the front door and then took off on foot. After an investigation, Phillip Allen Loughry, 31, of Baxley, was charged with one count each of terroristic threats and burglary in connection with this incident.
July 24 at approx. 12:52, met with the resident at a Tippins Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had broken into his home and removed two cordless phones and a gold ring with a diamond.
July 26 at approx. 10:29 a.m., met with a complainant at a West Tollison Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had stolen their 2011 homemade enclosed trailer. The trailer is described as white in color, one axle, and approximately 12 feet in length, with a fold down door and also has a side door on the right side of the trailer. The trailer was bearing a current Georgia tag TL7EM06. The trailer has been entered on the GCIC computer network as being stolen.
July 27 at approx. 3:21 p.m., met with a resident at a City Circle Road address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had removed a Carter brand go-cart, blue in color, from an outbuilding on her property sometime over the past few days.
July 29 at approx. 11:45, met with a resident at a NFL Drive address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had removed his Schwinn aluminum bike, silver in color, and two weed eaters from his property.
Aug. 1 at approx. 9:24 a.m., met with a complainant at a Weaver Street address in reference to an abandoned vehicle. On arrival the complainant told officers that while checking the residence he discovered the abandoned vehicle in the driveway with no one around it. The vehicle was jacked up on one corner and the other three corners were on blocks, and the tires and rims had been taken off. Investigation revealed that the vehicle had been previously reported stolen to the Appling County Sheriff’s Office, from a local resident in the county. The scene was turned over to the county investigators for processing.
Aug. 2 at approx. 9:00 a.m., met with a worker at the Max Deen City Pool in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had entered the building and removed an undetermined amount of currency from the cash drawer, along with two cases of Sprite and one case of Dr. Pepper drinks.
Aug. 2 at approx. 2:36 p.m., met with a resident at a Peachtree Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown removed her child’s bike. It’s described as a rocket bike, blue in color, with a black seat, white handlebars, white rims and a blue frame.
Aug. 3 at approx. 12:59 p.m., met with a resident at the Max Deen City Pool in reference to a burglary. On arrival the worker told officers that person(s) unknown had entered the building and removed a case of drinks and several food items along with a small amount of currency from the cash drawer.
Aug. 6 at approx. 10:19 p.m., met with a resident at a West Parker Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had removed his Troy Built brand pressure washer from his front porch. The washer is described as being red and black in color, with a seven horsepower engine and it had a grey hose on it.
Aug. 7 at approx. 10:44 a.m., met with a clerk at the Citi Trends in reference to a counterfeit bill. On arrival the clerk told officers that the bill was taken in yesterday’s business. The bill is a twenty-dollar bill, with serial number CG79999887B. The bill was placed in evidence and will be forwarded to the secret service for further investigation.
Aug. 7 at approx. 5:41 p.m., met with a resident at a Beach Road address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that while he was away from his home person(s) unknown broke in and removed a Remington 870 express left handed 12-gauge shotgun, bearing the serial number AB508741M, and a Mossberg pump action 410 shotgun, bearing the serial number P509209. Both guns were entered in the GCIC computer network as stolen.
