Concerned that pants are too low

Dear Editor,

My family in Baxley and in various states enjoys your coverage of the news in Baxley and in Appling County; and we appreciate your telling “both sides of the story.”

The reason I am writing this letter is that I have been concerned for several years with the conduct of some people in this area who wear their pants below their waist, exposing their underwear or bottoms. Their belts are used most of the time, but they certainly do nothing to hold their pants up to their waist.

I don’t profess to be a perfect person, but I do think that these people should show some sense of decency and respect for others without showing their nakedness.

The city of Ludowici voted several years ago to ban the wearing of pants so low that the underwear/body is exposed. I believe it would be in the interest of most people, for a law like that to be passed in Baxley and the county.

This letter is written with sincerity and the issue is not a laughing matter to me.

Of all of the problems/issues in Appling County, this is what grinds your gears? You are pathetic. Oh, in case you are wondering, No; I'm not a young person nor do I sag my pants. There are a lot of REAL issues to be ticked about instead of this.

I actually think that Mrs. Flanagan is completely right. Sure, there are other issues we need to face...but It would take little effort on our local leaders to try to make our city and county even better by enforcing that its citizens look halfway decent.

I think the low slung pants look stupid also but I surely do not want the government telling it's citizens how to wear their clothes. There is a lot more to worry about in these days.

Do you realize if you ban these idiots from wearing pants incorrectly they will find something else to annoy you? There are plenty of other things that will get under your skin (tattoos, piercings, slang, manners- or the lack thereof, clothing, jewelry, cars, music, etc.). So take away their candy and they will flock to a different source of 'cool' and you will be left annoyed yet again. I don't like seeing underwear either, but I actually talk to the people I see showing underwear. I casually let them know I have a gay friend who may take a liking to them, then when they have that puzzled look on their faces, I explain the origin of the sagging waistline (homosexual males in prison advertising 'availability' to the other inmates).

My ultimate point: this is a social problem, not a governmental problem.

Don't you think I have friends/family who have tattoos, piercings, etc.? If you remember, God instructed Adam and Eve to hid their nakedness!!

i agree with you totally... i dont like it either but if they can say that then whats next? telling us how to wear or hair or make-up? what freedoms will they take from us after that? what we can name our kids? there are bigger concerns in our community, if people want to look stupid thats their own business...
