I would like to take this opportunity to welcome back all returning students and their families, and extend my initial welcome to our incoming ninth graders as well as other new students and their families. I look forward to meeting and working with all of you this year.
The staff of Appling County High School is committed to providing the best opportunity for you to achieve success in and out of the classroom. The mission of Appling County High School is to promote Academic Achievement, Civic Responsibility and Extracurricular Excellence.
I look forward to this school year with great excitement and hope all of our students will have a rewarding and a successful year. Please take time to visit the school’s website where valuable information can be found. The school system is implementing Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) and the information and guidelines may be viewed on our website and in the Student Handbook. Common Core Georgia Performance Standard (CCGPS) will be implemented in mathematics and English language arts curriculum for ninth grade students. The Advanced Placement Program (AP) is being expanded to offer three new AP classes: Psychology, Biology and Calculus. Ninth graders will also begin their new journey through the Career Technical and Education (CTAE) Pathways.
Ninth Grade Orientation is planned for Monday, August 6, at 5:00 PM. in the Fine Arts Center. Only ninth graders will receive a copy of their schedule and a tour of the campus. Returning students who would like to review their schedules prior to the first day of school may log on to Infinite Campus. You will not receive a copy of your schedule until the first day of school, August 7, 2012 during homeroom.
Students, I encourage you to make the most of your high school experience and I hope you will take advantage of the resources we have to offer you at ACHS. Parents please stay involved in your child’s education and let the staff members of Appling County High School help you and your child achieve success. Finally remember, “For with God all things are possible”, Bible, Mark 10:27.
Sincerely,
Gene A. Starr, Jr., Ed. D.
