During the regular meeting of the Baxley City Council, held Thursday, June 28, Councilmen Mickey Bass requested that City Manager Jeff Baxley and City Attorney Alex Johnson research other cities and to come up with a baggy pants ordinance for the City of Baxley. Bass and several other council members stated they have been getting calls about this problem.

The council approved the first reading of an ordinance amending the zoning ordinance of the City of Baxley to rezone a track of land owned by K. Dawn, Inc. /Roger and Dawn Branch, located at 24 Glendale Avenue, from a Residential (R-15) zone to a Business (B-2) zone.
A first reading and adoption was approved unanimously by the council for an ordinance regarding Enforcement of Georgia State Minimum Standard Codes for Construction and for other purposes.
Mayor Pro Tem Esco Hall, Jr. and Councilman Kenneth Waithe stated they both attended the Ethics Class at the GMA convention and it was very informative.
City manager’s report
Jeff Baxley reported that the city is in the process of getting a sign to recognize the ACHS Pirate Baseball Team for winning 2012 GHSA State Championship.
He announced that a county CDBG project is now being let and this would finish extending the sewer in Cooks Heights area off of Nails Ferry Road.
The manager reported the revenues and expenditures through May are looking pretty much in line for this time of year.
Manager Baxley stated that they should be receiving a SLOST negotiation letter from the Appling County Commissioners soon.
