William Wardell Bennett, 52, died January 11, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Bennett was a native of Liberty County and was born November 1, 1958 to the late Leo Bennett and the late Bessie Strickland Bennett Trout. He was employed by Bob’s Wholesale for several years and Handy Andy in Vidalia. Mr. Bennett loved to play his guitar and sing and was deeply loved by his family and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by a brother, Loren E. Bennett, Jr., a niece, Cathy Swain Meeks and two nephews, David Overstreet and Estelle Leo Swain.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Bennett of Baxley; two daughters and son-in-law, Keisha and Adam Richards and Tori Bennett of Baxley; three step-sons, Aaron Poynter of East Peoria, IL, Nic (Melissa) Poynter of Danvers, IL and Kevin Deckard, Jr. of Cerro Gordo, IL; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathleen and Tommy Overstreet and Susie and Tracy Swain of Alma; one brother, Ray Bennett of Baxley; nieces and nephews, Billy Overstreet, Gary Overstreet, Sweety (Jeff) Bass, Ginger (Ryan) Perry, Tracy (Grace) Swain, Jr. and George Swain; two grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and several great nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15 in the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Bryant officiating. Interment followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Alma.
Active pallbearers were Billy Overstreet, Gary Overstreet, Tracy Swain, Jr., Ryan Perry, Keith Richardson and Steve Wynn.
Honorary pallbearers were Calvin Peace, Ray Bennett, Tommy Overstreet, Tracy Swain, George Swain and all friends in attendance.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Swain Funeral Home to help defray cost of the service.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
