National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) member Martha Dykes represented the Colonel Daniel Appling Chapter at the Georgia State Society DAR 114th State Conference in Augusta. The first day included a memorial service for departed members, the Chapter Regents’ Club luncheon, the opening business session and the chapter appreciation and page reunion banquet.
The State Chairmen’s Breakfast started off the second day followed by the morning business session, which featured the NSDAR President General Merry Ann Wright who held a question/answer session.
One of the highlights of the State Conference each year is the DAR School/Youth luncheon. It was during this time that Mrs. Dykes who served as the DAR State Chairman for the American History Committee for two years presented certificates and medals to the American History and Christopher Columbus essay winners. Mrs. Wright and Georgia State Society DAR Regent Sally Baldwin assisted her.
During the afternoon business session state officer and state chairman reports were given. It was at this time that Mrs. Dykes awarded the Fort Frederica Chapter Regent Dr. Louise Henry the American History Traveling Silver Tray for having the “Best Overall Participation in American History Activities”.
