I’ve stated several times over the past few months that I believe this is one of the most important election years in the history of our country. That is why I have been stressing to citizens the importance of voting, as well as, becoming an informed electorate. There is an abundant amount of information on the front pages of dailies across the country, television evening news and talk shows about the national election, but what about local candidates?
One way to gain knowledge about local candidates is to visit The Baxley News-Banner’s website, found at
www.baxleynewsbanner.com, and click the link to our Election 2012 page. This page features local and area candidates telling you first-hand why they believe they are the best candidate for each position.
An additional way to learn about candidates is through community forums. The Appling County Heritage Center and The Appling County NAACP are both hosting political forums in the coming days. Due to the number of local candidates, the Heritage Center’s forum will be held on two nights, June 26 and 28, starting at 7:00 each night, at the Appling County Courthouse Annex. The NAACP’s forum will be held June 21 at the Progressive Resource Center starting at 7:00 p.m.
Both events should provide voters information and insight about the candidates seeking local office. The News-Banner encourages citizens to attend these important forums.
