First Baby of the Year announced
Lina Gizell Canaca Espinal was the first baby of the year for 2011 born in Appling County at Appling Healthcare System.
The mother and baby are entitled to prizes from The Baxley News-Banner’s first baby of the year contest. Prizes are awarded by this newspaper and various sponsors including Abundant Life Pharmacy & Health Food, Fulghum Drug Store, Sarah’s Florist and Gifts, Peoples State Bank, Interstate Credit Union, Jada’s, FNB South, Barnes Pharmacy and Twin Communications.
Lina’s proud parents are Maria De Jesus Espinal and Felix Antonio Canaca of Baxley. She was born at 12:52 p.m. on January 3, 2011, and weighed 7 pounds and 7 ounces.
She was delivered at the Appling Healthcare System by Dr. John Crane (shown in photo with family), also born on January 3. Lina joins older brother, Kevin S. Rivera, age 2. Lina is the granddaughter of Satur Dina Baca and Julian Ordanos of Honduras and Modesta Valle of Honduras and Odilo Arturo Canaca of Texas.
