As Hurricane Season 2012 arrives, the American Red Cross is busy preparing to shelter those that may need refuge from the storm or as a result of damage from the storms.
In order for the organization to be ready to receive guests, the American Red Cross needs to train people to work in shelters throughout the local counties. Your local American Red Cross will be offering a free sheltering course at 6:00 p.m. on June 25, at the Appling EMA Office located at 259 W Parker Street.
Anyone interested in becoming a shelter volunteer or participating in a disaster response locally should attend. The training is an overview of what the American Red Cross does in a shelter and how the operation works.
Many times people are frustrated during large disasters because they are willing to help but don’t have the training.
This course will allow you to participate in the sheltering process and help the American Red Cross be prepared for any weather events.
The training is only done once and does not require updates. Additional volunteer opportunities are also available and will be discussed at the class.
Please RSVP to Donna Lee at 912-764-4468, 912-526-3150, or via email at donna.lee@redcross.org. Together, we can make a difference.
