James L. Waddell, 89, of Jesup, died Friday, May 25, 2012 at his residence. James was born Feb. 4, 1927 to the late Olen Waddell and the late Mary Owens Waddell in Meriwether and had lived in Jesup for the past sixty years. He was retired and before his retirement he was self-employed as a cement finisher. Waddell was a veteran of the United State Army and served in World War II. He was a member of New Life Pentecostal Church of Jesup.
Survivors include his wife, Audell Waddell of Jesup; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Clarence Nettles of Jesup, Patricia and Herbert Westberry of Odum and Brenda and Pete Rozier of Baxley; six sons and daughters-in-law, Melvin and Judy Waddell of Screven, Sam (Butch) and Eunice Waddell of Jesup, Charles Turner of Jesup, Howard and Pat Turner of Douglas, Thomas Turner of Baxley, Eddie and Rhonda Turner of Etowah, TN and Rady and Anne Turner of Lakeland; sisters, Betty Jean Whitaker and Husband, Morgan and Johnnie Pearl, all of Meriwether in addition to several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 27 at David E. Miles Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. David Hubbs and Justin Drawdy officiating. Interment followed in Omega Cemetery with military rites.
Active pallbearers were Eddie Turner, Tyler Overstreet, Timmy Nettles, Thomas Turner, Devin Waddell and Mike Hand.
Honorary pallbearers were employees of Hospice of South Georgia.
Musical selections were rendered by Tiffany Drawdy and Teresa Mosley.
Arrangements were under the direction of David E. Miles Funeral Home.
