The Appling County Board of Education has hired Chris Roppe, of Baxley, as the new principal for the Appling County Middle School. The decision was made during a called meeting held on May 31. Roppe has served as assistant principal at Bacon County Middle School (2008 – 2010) and Pierce County High School (2010 – 2012). He started his career teaching at Jeff Davis County Primary School in 1998 and was an assistant coach in football and baseball.
Roppe also taught in Appling County at the high school from 2002 – 2004 and served as an assistant football coach and was the head baseball coach.
Roppe holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree as well as two specialist degrees, one in curriculum, instruction and administration and another in education leadership.
Chris is married to Shelly Roppe and they have a six-year-old daughter, Sydney Kate. The couple resides in Baxley (since 2002) and they are members of First Baptist Church. He is scheduled to take his new position starting June 11.
