The Appling County Pirates (34-3) lost game one of the State Championship series 2-4 against the Pierce County Bears (30-8) on Saturday. The Pirates were able to get a big win in game two, 12-1 in five innings, to force a game three that has been delayed due to Tropical Storm Beryl until Thursday, May 31 at 6:00 p.m., weather permitting. Game one recap
The Bears would get the first score of the game in the third inning scoring from third after a pitch got away from the Pirate catcher. The Bears would add another run in the fifth scoring once again on a pitch that would get away from the catcher. The Pirates would get a run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly ball to plate Justin Javis . The Bears would answer in the top of the seventh with a two-run homerun to make the score 1-4. The Pirates would add a run in the bottom of the seventh but would strand runners on first and second to lose 2-4.
Game two recap
The Pirates would get their first lead of the State Championship series in the top of the fifth inning where they would score 12 runs in the inning. The Pirates would score multiple runs on bases loaded walks and many clutch hits from the entire Pirate lineup. Pirate pitcher Josh Deen would pitch the complete game giving up a run in the bottom of the fifth to get the victory.
