Tragic accident results in death of cyclist
The Appling County Sheriff’s office reports that on Friday, May 11, deputies responded to a vehicle accident at the intersection of Wayne Jones Road and U.S. Highway 1. A truck was stopped making a left turn onto Wayne Jones Road and the driver of a motorcycle failed to recognize that the truck was turning. The driver of the motorcycle, Jason Costa, of Baxley, was killed on impact.

Apr. 28, answered a call on Jekyll Road in reference to a theft. Taken was a 1998 Grand Am, black in color. The vehicle was not entered into GCIC because the complainant could not provide a VIN or TAG number on the vehicle.
May 2, answered a call to Midway Baptist Church in reference to a burglary. Taken was a piggy bank that belongs to the children’s Sunday school class. Not sure of the exact amount of money found missing. Further investigation led to the piggy bank being found and it will be dusted for fingerprints. Investigation continues.
May 4, answered a call on River Ridge Drive in reference to a burglary. Taken were a 42-inch Sony Plasma TV, Sony PlayStation, and several PlayStation games. Investigation will continue.
May 5, a routine traffic stop on Knight Saw Mill Road resulted in the arrest of Rusty D. Beckworth, 41, of Baxley. Beckworth was arrested and charged with drugs to be kept in original container and driving on suspended license.
May 5, answered a call on Piney Bluff Road in reference to trespass. A complainant stated that offender was on her property and would not leave. Once offender realized that the complainant had called 911, he left the residence.
May 5, answered a call on Palmetto Circle in reference to a theft. A complainant stated that a subject had taken fourteen checks as well as a flat screen TV, various amounts of jewelry, and a Wii. The complainant stated he believes the offender to be a family member. Investigation continues.
May 6, answered a call on Red Oak Road in reference to child abuse. The DFACS was notified of the situation. Investigation continues.
May 7, answered a call on Old Surrency Road in reference to the complainant stating that someone had invaded his home. They spoke with the complainant and found him unharmed. A thorough search was made and no evidence to support the complainant’s claims of someone being on the property was found.
May 7, answered a call to Ga. 4 in reference to a damaged vehicle. A complainant stated the tire of her vehicle came off while traveling on the highway causing damage to the vehicle.
May 7, a complainant came to sheriff’s office to report a theft/civil dispute. A complainant stated he had bought a piece of property, which included several items with the property. The complainant stated previous landowner came and took the items.
May 8, answered a call to Collins Lane in reference to a child custody dispute. A mother and a daughter were disputing over daughter’s child, which she stated she had custody of.
May 8, a complainant came to sheriff’s office to report harassment.
Complainant stated her ex-boyfriend posted a nude photo of her on Facebook, which was down loaded to a cell phone by another subject and continues to be shown. She wishes for photo to stop being shown.
May 8, answered a call to Varnadore Lane in reference to a civil dispute. A complainant stated he and his wife have been divorced for three months and she will not leave his residence.
May 8, answered a call to Ben Carter Road in reference to a domestic dispute. A complainant stated she and her husband had a verbal dispute, which led to an altercation. The husband had left the residence before officer arrived. The complainant secured a warrant.
May 8, answered a call to Brobston Street in reference to a runaway juvenile.
May 9, a routine traffic stop on Highway 341/Brobston Street resulted in the arrest of Aaron Phillip Huskins, 23, and Jacob Duane Huskins, 19, both of White. Phillip Aaron Huskins was charged with improper u-turn and V.G.C.S.A. /cocaine and Jacob Duane Huskins was charged with V.G.C.S.A. /cocaine.
May 10, answered a call to Sandy Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated someone had taken from a residence that he previously resided, wooden steps, storm door, and two rolls of fiberglass insulation and fifty pounds of galvanized nails. Investigation continues.
