Spring is without a doubt my favorite time of year. It’s as if new life is brimming everywhere you turn. Have you noticed the Bradford Pears around town? The white blooms have been beautiful this year. In addition, it will not be long until the azaleas will also be in full bloom.
After the long and hard winter we have experienced, warmer days will be welcome relief. This week I think the temps are predicted to be in the upper 70s, maybe even low 80s. Can’t wait.
I don’t know about you, but the older I get the more I dread winter. My skin cracks, my joints ache, and my lips chap...enough said. I don’t know how people in northern states deal with the long dreadful winter months and with all the snow and ice.
Spring is also a grand time of year around the area as communities gear up for various festivals and events. Just this past weekend the Peaches to the Beaches Annual Yard Sale, along Highway 341 from Perry to the Golden Isles, brought many visitors to Baxley. The approaching Tree Fest is sure to entertain the community as well as visitors. Make plans to attend Tree Fest the weekend of April 8.
This time of year also brings about another favorite...baseball and softball. I enjoy both and especially watching my children get involved in this favorite pastime. As for me, I went Sunday and hit a few softballs with some friends. I still love the game, but my body is starting to tell me that I may be getting a little too old for this young man’s game. This game has also been detrimental to my health at times; a few broken bones, CT scans, bruises and more.
This is hard to admit, but there have been times in my life when I have questioned spirituality, or better stated, Christianity. But if you take a moment to just look around...look at nature and creation, especially during this time of year...it’s not hard to realize that there is a Creator and He has a way of bringing new life.
