Series recap against Coosa
Game 1 - The Pirates came out of the gates slowly as they could only manage two runs through four innings. The Pirates scored one run in the first inning and one in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead to the bottom of the fifth.
Threatening clouds and lightning delayed the game in the bottom of the fifth. When play resumed the Pirates put up eight runs in one inning to take the game via the mercy rule 10-0.
Byron Buxton got the win on the mound. He struck out ten Eagles on his way to his seventh win of the year.
Josh Barber drove in four of the Pirates runs with two doubles.
Game 2 - Game two found the Pirates in unfamiliar territory as they trailed the entire game. The Eagles took advantage of a eight-run second inning to defeat the Pirates 9-3.
Game 3 - Facing elimination in game three, the Pirates bats came alive in a big way. They scored nine runs in the first three innings, while holding the Eagles to two runs.
Josh Barber started the game and went into the fifth inning. Byron Buxton came on in relief to finish the game and preserve the 11-5 victory for the Pirates.
Other region 2AA results
The Pirates are joined in the Elite Eight by two fellow region members. Second seed Pierce County (25-5) won their series over North Oconee two games to none and fourth seed Brantley County (18-11) won their series over Hart County two games to one. Pierce County will face Region 6AA second seed Buford (20-10) with Brantley County facing Region 5AA top seed Callaway (26-5).
