Lady Eagles capture State Crown
Reeling from a 5-0 defeat in the first game of the best two out of three championship series, the Appling Christian Lady Eagles came roaring back to win the GCAA State Championship in softball this past weekend in Franklin Springs. The Lady Eagles won games two and three handedly by defeating the Peoples Christian Knights 13-0 in game two and 8-3 in game three to win the series and the championship.
Kate Vinson was chosen the Most Valuable Player in the championship series. She pitched 15 innings and was the winning pitcher in games two and three. Kate had an earned run average of 1.000 and struck out 13 batters. Lindsey Johnson, Christin Beasley, Morgan McCall, Deanna Johnson, and Kate Vinson were leading hitters in the three game series.
The Lady Eagles completed their season with an overall 15-3 won-lost record and an 8-1 conference record. Lindsey Johnson led the team with a season batting average of .571. Lindsey also led all pitchers with an 11-3 won-lost record for the season. The team had a .414 batting average and a fielding percentage of .889. The baseball Eagles competed for the GCAA State championship this past weekend; however the team lost games one and two and were eliminated by Barnes Academy. Barnes handed the Eagles a 6-1 loss in game one and a 12-6 loss in game two. Overall, the Eagles had a strong showing this season by winning their region title and finishing the season 17-5.
Team members include Sarah Dhaliwal, Alyssa Livingston, Maegan McDaniel, Katlin Williams, Lindsey Johnson, Kate Vinson, Christin Beasley, Morgan McCall, Taylor Holt, Deanna Johnson, Lauren Beasley, Maci McCall, Natalie Wiggins and Ashley Cook (bat girl). The team is coached by Mike Vinson, Bryan Cook and Zach Johnson.
