Georgia Southern Softball backed up a series victory over Chattanooga with SoCon Pitcher and Player of the Week honors for Sarah Purvis and Mackenzie Williams, respectively. It is the second career weekly award for each Eagle with Purvis picking up Pitcher of the Week honors on March 12th and Williams earning Player of the Week on April 18, 2011.
Purvis, a native of Warner Robins, opened the week with a hard-luck loss at No. Nine Georgia.
She allowed just one run against the Bulldogs and retired the final 16 batters of the game Against Chattanooga, she earned both victories, striking out 13 batters in a shutout win on Saturday and tossing a three-hitter in the Sunday finale. Overall, she posted a 1.05 ERA and struck out 23 batters over 20.0 innings of work.
Williams of Baxley, the Eagle catcher, hit three home runs in the series, one in each contest to lead the Eagle offense. She finished the week hitting .545, going six-for-eleven overall and six-for-nine in the Chattanooga series.
She slugged at a 1.455 clip, driving in seven runs on the week.
