Congressman John Barrow, of Georgia’s 12th Congressional District, made a stop at Apple Dumpling Restaurant on March 12 as part of his “get acquainted” tour due to redistricting that followed the 2010 Census. According to the new congressional maps, Appling will now be in the 12th District. Barrow is trekking around the area in order to meet and greet people in counties like Appling who are new to the proposed district. Congressman Barrow spoke on a variety of issues to the crowd of around thirty people, ranging from health care and services for veterans to the economy and jobs.
Congressman Barrow also took part in a Baxley News-Banner video interview that will be shown on the newspaper’s website at a later date. The first election using the new district boundaries will be this year during the General Primary and General Elections. Barrow is serving his fourth term in congress and is seeking reelection. For over 7 generations, his family has farmed, taught, preached, and practiced law all across eastern and southeastern Georgia.
