Pirates defeat Pierce 8-4
The Pirates traveled and defeated region 2AA foe Pierce County 8-4 on Friday night, March 9. Both teams came into the contest undefeated in region play and ranked in the top three in the state AA coaches poll, Pirates number one and Bears number three. Pirates win in five innings over Warriors
The Pirates won big over the Battle Creek Warriors of Tattnall County 10-0 in five innings on Tuesday night, March 6. On a chilly night the Pirates jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the first. Jeremy Ammons and Josh Barber walked. Ammons scored on a wild pitch without the benefit of a hit.
In the third inning, the Pirates’ bats started to heat up as they scored two more runs to take a 3-0 lead. Byron Buxton singled, Jeremy Ammons found the gap in right center to score the speedy Buxton all the way from first. After one out, Kyle Miller lined a shot off the glove of the third baseman for a single. Ammons scored as the ball rolled into left field.
The Pirates blew the game open in the fourth scoring six runs on five hits to take a commanding 9-0 lead. The big blow came off the bat of Ammons as he delivered his second homerun of the year, a three-run blast to left-center. Miller, Devin Causey and Guner Sellers followed the blast with three consecutive hits to plate two more runs. The Pirates added a single run in the top of the fifth to reach the mercy rule 10-0.
Josh Barber started on the mound and pitched five strong innings, picking up his third win of the season. Barber walked two Warriors and gave just up two hits. Barber also fanned ten Tattnall batters on the night.
Jeremy Ammons had a big night at the plate going three for three with five RBIs. Kyle Miller had two hits as well including a double in the fourth.
Pirates 14-0 Winners on Throwback Night
The Appling County baseball team beat visiting Bacon County on Monday night, March 5, 14-0 in five innings. Josh Deen starting on the hill for the Pirates pitching two scoreless innings. Jeremy Ammons and Mathew Shumans followed with brilliant pitching performances of their own. The Pirates banged out nine hits on the night. Kyle Miller two for three on the night with a double, Byron Buxton went two for two with a triple. Josh Barber drove in three of the Pirates fourteen runs.
