Despite ongoing Medicaid billing issues that play a role in cash flow problems, Appling HealthCare’s CFO Ferrell Turner reported to members of the Baxley-Appling County Hospital Authority that the healthcare system had a good January. The authority met on February 25 for a monthly meeting.
Appling HealthCare has good January, according to CFO
Turner started by reporting that the number of patients served in January was up and also reported that the system had a gross revenue of $7.7 million and a net revenue of $400,000.00. All told, the system finished the month at 14.3 percent revenue above expenses. Turner also stated that the system finished January better off than the same month in 2010 and better than budget projections.
On the down side Turner expressed concern to board members that insurance premiums for system staff continues to increase, as well as the cost of supplies. He also noted that the system’s annual audit would be presented at the March meeting.
CEO Dale Spell reported to The News-Banner that all payroll liabilities are in current standing.
Other business
Spell told authority members that the system has been receiving pressure from the state citing that the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit wing needs more privacy between patients. Spell asked that the Buildings and Grounds Committee possibly take a look at constructing glass enclosures around patient beds in the wing.
COO Joyce Alderman reported that the system would be changing its pharmacy service, which will result in cost savings to the system.
LTC Administrator Melba Webb reported that The Pavilion occupancy rate remains at 99 percent. Webb also shared information with members about a mobile dentistry service that has been coming to The Pavilion.
The authority entered into a closed-door session to discuss personnel issues. No action was reported.
