City manager report
Jeff Baxley pointed out that each council member had a draft of the rental guidelines and rules for the new Water Work Park and asked them to take a look at it and if they had any ideas and to let him know. Kristin Floyd had a part in drawing up the guidelines. The manager also gave a report on the sound system that will be at the park. The sound system in the park will have the capability of playing soft background music. The manager stated that the speaker system would be a really nice enhancement. The music will be heard throughout the park. The speakers have been designed to look like rocks. The music will automatically come on and go off at set times. There will also be hook up from the stage area that can be used for either music for bands/entertainment or speaking.
He also reported that this past Friday, Feb. 18, at about 5:30 p.m., the force main pipe broke in two places, made a mess for the city, this force main pipe sends treated water to the river. A separation of the pipe occurred on Wednesday across from the Hungry Lion Store on Highway 15, and next to El Shaddae Church. They were able to spray at the WWTP until the issue wasfixed on Friday. The city needed a coupling to fix the pipe. The manager commended the City of Alma for coming to their aid and meeting him with a coupling that was needed to fix it. The manager pointed out that they are fortunate to still have a means to spray the effluent.
He stated they don’t spray anymore, but it is a great design to have as a back up if there are any problems.
Jeff Baxley was pleased to report that a paper-recycling program is starting up using large roll off containers.
It will be voluntary and not cost the city anything.
The manager reported that the city is in the process of updating the mileage.
