The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department.
January 19, at approximately 3:20 p.m., officers met with the resident at a Harvey Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that an uknown person had entered her home and removed a black X-Box System, a baseball piggy bank and its contents, and a gold cross necklace.
Jan. 23, at approx. 7:37 a.m., met with a complainant at Air Management in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that they had an internal theft. Investigation led to the arrest of Freddy Roy Bennett, Jr., 22, of Baxley, on charges of one count theft by taking.
Jan. 23, at approx. 1:23 p.m., met with a complainant at Fusion Wireless in reference to a burglary. On arrival the complainant told officers that when he got to work, he found the front door unlocked and the back door was open. The complainant reported he was missing several cell phones from the storage area.
Jan. 24, at approx. 5:19 p.m., met with a resident at a Ranier Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that sometime in the past two or three weeks, an unknown person(s) entered his home and removed a Delmont guitar, a Peavey five string bass and a Vox brand amp.
Jan. 28, at approx. 9:55 a.m., met with a resident at a Jones Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that while she was away from her home, person(s) unknown entered her home and removed a 32-inch plasma TV.
Jan. 29, at approx. 6:52 p.m., met with a resident at a Harley Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had broke into his home and removed a bucket full of change and a .22-caliber rifle.
Feb. 6, at approx. 8:10 a.m., met with a complainant at the Harvey’s Supermarket parking lot in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that while he was inside shopping, an unknown person entered his truck and removed a duffle bag, which contained miscellaneous clothing items, along with a laptop computer.
Feb. 7, at approx. 4:30 a.m., met with a complainant in the 911-lobby in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that an acquaintance of his had taken some cash from his wallet and he wanted it back. The complainant was urged to contact the magistrate court for further judicial proceedings.
Feb. 8, at approx. 2:49 p.m., met with a complainant at Wal-Mart shopping center in reference to vandalism to her car. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had applied a white liquid all over her car.
Feb. 9, at approx. 10:30 a.m., met with a resident at a Holton Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that while she was away, person(s) unknown entered her home and removed a Sony brand DVD player, along with a small amount of cash.
Feb. 10, at approx. 8:56 p.m., answered a call to the Pine Lodge Motel in reference to a disturbance. On arrival a witness told officers that two male subjects were fighting in front of the office and that one had run off and the other was still there. Upon officers talking to the subject to inquire about the incident, officers noticed him to be intoxicated. The subject first told the officers that he had been robbed and then later changed his story. Further investigation along with a pat down of the subject, resulted in the seizure of approx. eight-gram bag of marijuana, and 60 smaller plastic baggies. The subject, Jeremy Albert Earl Smith, 19, of Baxley, was placed under arrest for charges of one count each of pedestrian under the influence, possession of a drug related object and possession of marijuana.
Feb. 13, at approx. 12:54, met with a resident at a Donnie Lane address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had removed two bicycles from her residence. One bike is a girl’s bike, purple and pink in color and the other one is a boy’s bike, bright green in color.
Feb. 13, at approx. 1:47 p.m., met with a complainant at the police department in reference to a bad check. On arrival the complainant told officers that a subject had passed a check at his store and the bank had returned the check marked account closed. A report was put on file and the complainant was urged to contact the magistrate court for further judicial proceedings.
Feb. 15, at approx. 7:12 p.m., met with a resident at a Louise Lane address in reference to some property damage. On arrival the resident told officers that a subject had pulled into his driveway and apparently lost control of her vehicle, resulting in her striking and damaging his carport and a section of chain link fence.
