Could result in lower insurance rates for homeowners

The Appling County Board of Commissioners have been notified by ISO that Appling’s rural fire departments have met and completed the requirements of a Public Protection Class (PPC) survey. ISO’s analysis of the structural fire suppression delivery system, provided in the unincorporated portions of the county, has resulted in a better classification moving from an ISO rating of 9/10 to a rating of 8B/10. The new ratings will begin April 1.
County’s fire rating improves
The county and volunteer fire departments have been working hard to get the classification lowered for several years. In 2011 all rural fire departments were individually inspected to make sure that all necessary requirements had been completed.
This new rating could result in savings for homeowners on their insurance coverage. ISO’s Public Protection Classification Program plays an integral part in the underwriting process at insurance companies. Most U.S. insurers, including the largest companies, use PPC information in decision-making when deciding what business to write, coverage to offer, or price to charge for personal or commercial property insurance.
Rural county homeowners are encouraged to check with their insurance providers to see if they qualify for lower rates.
