(Editor’s note: The following information was read by Appling Christian Academy’s Principal Jerome Grenade about the school’s 2012 STAR Student Kayla Bohannon at the Baxley/Appling County Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Meeting held on Tuesday, Jan. 31. Bohannon selected Melanie Claxton as her STAR Teacher.)
On behalf of our staff and school board, I wish to thank the chamber for the opportunity to honor and recognize Appling Christian Academy’s STAR Student and STAR Teacher for the 2011-2012 school year.
If I were to write a character sketch of our STAR Student it would comprise of several pages. For the sake of time, I would like to mention a few words that describe her character. Some of those would be winsome, intelligent, compassionate, integrity, delightful, impeccable, attentive, and most of all Christian.

Bohannon is STAR Student for ACA, selects Claxton as STAR Teacher
ACA’s STAR Student is Miss Kayla Bohannon of Baxley, Georgia. Kayla is the daughter of Jimmy and Jami Bohannon. She is a member of the Dunn Memorial Baptist Church and has attended ACA since the 9th grade. Prior to coming to our school, Kayla was a home school student.
She has received many academic honors and recognitions including being named to the Principal’s List for six semesters and the A Honor Roll for 7 semesters. In addition, Kayla has received the highest academic subject award in 15 different subjects. She has been recognized as the top academic student in every year of her high school career and presently is ranked first in her senior class. Kayla is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and the ACA Christian Honor Society where she serves as co-president. She is maintaining a 4.0 GPA in her academic high school career.
Kayla serves as a peer tutor for students who are having academic difficulties. She serves as a worship leader in our weekly chapel services. Kayla placed first in the state in a Georgia Association of Christian Schools fine arts competition in Bible verse memory and placed first runner –up in the American Association of Christian Schools National competition.
Kayla scored a 1960 on her SAT to qualify as STAR Student. She plans to pursue a degree in psychology at Mercer University upon graduation. Ladies and gentlemen, Miss Kayla Bohannon.
