WHEREAS, the 2010 U.S. Census data indicates that the current Education Districts from which the members of the Board of Education are elected are malapportioned; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Education desires to reapportion its Education Districts in order to comply with the Constitutional requirement of “one person, one vote” and the requirements of The Voting Rights Act of 1965; and
WHEREAS, after reviewing the plan and seeking input from the community, the Board of Education believes that the plan titled applingccsb-prop1-tiger20 best serves the interest of the school district, the voters and the community, by making the fewest possible changes in the current district lines and taking into account the desire to maintain neighborhoods with historical common interests within the same Education District; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Education hereby requests its local legislature delegation to have legislative counsel draft the appropriate local act to redraw the Appling County Board of Education Districts pursuant to plan applingccsb-prop1-tiger20 as depicted on the attached map and described in the attached Exhibit, subject to the review of the Board of Education’s legal counsel, and introduce the approved bill for passage by the 2012 General Assembly.
