Love Etta Davis Kent, died Jan. 18, 2012. She was born to the late Mitchell Davis and Elizabeth Simmons on May 10, 1950 in Baxley. Ms. Kent attended Appling County High School. After high school she furthered her education in the medical field as a Nurse Practitioner. She had two children, Joe Davis and Joyce Davis. Later she married James Kent and to this union one child was born, Charles Kent. Ms. Kent was preceded in death by a brother, James “Jimmy” Davis and a sister, Charlotte Harris.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce (Tony) Thomas of Augusta; two sons, Joe (Althea) Davis of Americus and Charles (Tango) Kent of Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren, Cabrien Davis, Terrell Thomas, Trevione Kent and Ethen Davis; her mother, Elizabeth Simmons of Baxley; three sisters, Pat Hayes of Decatur, Phyllis Hector of Atlanta and Tammy Cox of Conley; one brother, Fernell Davis of Clarkston; three aunts, Joyce (George) Skipper of Baxley, Lucille Coleman of Surrency and Annabelle Mahone of Atlanta; and numerous nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces, cousins and other family and friends.
Funeral services were held at 12:00 noon Friday, Jan. 27 at First African Missionary Baptist Church, Baxley, with the eulogy given by the Rev. J. M. Blair. Burial followed in Old Field Memorial Gardens in Baxley.
Active pallbearers were Cabrien Davis, Jadon Harris, Trevione Kent, O’Randai Cox, Marquis Harris and Robert Harris, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were James Kent, Harry Skipper, David McCall, Wallace Dent, Nathan Skipper, Anthony Skipper, Eddie Dent, John Otis Skipper and Carlos Rooks.
Musical selections were rendered by Theresa Hayes and Christine and Carletha Wright.
Arrangements were under the direction of Baxley Funeral Home.
