Appling County Pirate football player Byron Buxton was named to two Class AA All-State teams. Buxton was named to the All-State team picked by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) as a first team defensive back. Buxton was also named to the first team Class AA All-State team picked by the Georgia Sportswriters Association as a wide receiver. This marks that first time that a Pirate player, in recent history, has been named to a first team all-state team on both sides of the ball.
Pirate senior quarter back Lashune Moore was also named to two Class AA All-State teams. Moore was named as an Honorable Mention on both the AJC and Georgia Sportswriters teams.
Buxton and Moore lead the Pirates to a 12-2 overall record and a spot in the final four in 2011 where they lost to eventual state champion Calhoun County.
Congratulations to both players on being named to the 2011 All-State teams.
