Did the headline get your attention? It should. I watched a video on ABC news last week that simply has my head spinning. The video report shows how three road and bridge projects across the country are being built by Chinese government-owned agencies. The projects include:
- A California bridge project that will connect San Francisco to Oakland scheduled at a whopping $7.2 billion (with a “B”).
- In New York, the Alexander Hamilton Bridge renovation project at $400 million.
- The final report/project is a bridge in Alaska at a cost of $190 million.
That equates to almost $8 billion dollars in American tax dollars to help Chinese workers, not American workers. President Obama has given a number of ear-pleasing speeches on how he is getting the U.S. back to work. Our elected government officials have shelled out billions in stimulus money (taxpayers money or newly printed greenbacks) to help the country get through this current recession and we don’t even allow American companies to do the projects that could potentially provide thousands of jobs for American workers?
One government official in the video claims that the government had done everything in its power to use American companies. He states that there are simply not enough welders to perform the tasks. I find it hard to believe that in our country, with unemployment so high, that there are not enough skilled workers to do these projects.
If this is a bad dream, someone please wake me up because this does not feel like the greatest country in the world anymore.
God, please bless America once again with sane elected officials across this entire country. I encourage you to think long and hard this 2012 about the people you put in office.
