Gerald “Dennis” Burke, 73, of Jesup, died Monday, January 2, 2012 at his residence after an extended illness. The Appling County native had lived in Wayne County for the past 50 years and was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church. He was a retired supervisor with the Department of Transportation, owner of Burke’s Used Cars for many years, loved to buy and trade anything, and loved traveling to the mountains.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Bettie Ann Carter Burke of Jesup; two daughters and sons-in-law, Angela B. and Al Copeland of Jesup and Amy B. and Kevin Coggins of Lake Park; one sister, Anna Lee Lightsey of Baxley; seven grandchildren, Chase Copeland, Chelan Copeland, Chelsea Copeland, all of Jesup, Colby Warren, Callie Warren, Kiep Coggins, Brinson Coggins, all of Lake Park; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Dennis Burke were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4 at the Rinehart and Sons Chapel with the Rev. J. E. Blanton and the Rev. Dennie Waters officiating. Interment followed in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jerry Boatright, Larry Boatright, Larramie Boatright, Terry Boatright, Hugh Burke and Richard Burke.
Honorary pallbearers were the Joy Makers Sunday-School Class and all church members of First Freewill Baptist Church.
Musical selections were rendered by Shelia Kennedy.
