Sheriff Benny DeLoach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
Dec. 10, answered a call to Holt Rentz Road in reference to a burglary. A complainant stated when returning from working out of town he found where someone had gone into his residence and took several of his guns. Investigation continues.
Dec. 10, answered a call to Poor Robin Road in reference to a domestic dispute. A husband and a wife had a dispute. The husband damaged the T.V. and moved part of the furniture to the yard. The husband then left the residence before the officer arrived
Dec. 10, a complainant came to the Appling County Sheriff’s Office to report a forgery. The complainant stated a subject stole a personal check from her vehicle and cashed it at a local convenience store. Investigation continues.
Dec. 10, answered a call to Solomon Street in reference to a theft. The complainant stated three subjects took a load of scrap metal from his property, and tried to sell it at a scrap metal business in Hazlehurst. Gregory Lamar Byrd, 42, of Baxley, was arrested charged with theft by taking, and warrants have been secured for Lamar Sanders and Alonzo Solomon.
Dec. 10, answered a call to Varnal Lane in reference to a theft. A complainant stated unknown subject(s) had stolen approximately 750 feet of telephone wire that was on his horse fence.
Dec. 11, answered a call to Saint Paul Church of God/Surrency in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated while in church, someone keyed the back of his vehicle.
Dec. 11, a routine traffic stop on U.S. 1 South resulted in the arrest of Tracy Leon Copeland, 29, of Baxley. Copeland was charged with possession of marijuana.
Dec. 12, answered a call to Fred Carter Road/Odum in reference to damage to property. The homeowner tampered with the meter box after being told power would be turned off if the bill was not paid.
Dec. 12, answered a call to Harmony Church Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated unknown person’s took a bottom turn plow and a two-row cultivating frame. Investigation continues.
Dec. 12, answered a call to Nails Ferry Road in reference to a civil dispute. Father and step-son are in a disagreement over the payment on rims, and a transmission on a vehicle.
Dec. 12, answered a call to Donnie Lewis Lane in reference to threats. The complainant stated a subject came to her residence wanting to fight her daughter. The subject had left the residence before the officer arrived.
Dec. 12, a complainant came to the Appling County Sheriff’s Office to report a theft. A complainant is a landlord and when his renters moved, they left without paying the rent and also took a washer and dryer, window air condition unit and refrigerator.
Dec. 13, answered a call to Varnadore Lane in reference to a domestic dispute. A husband and a wife are separated and the husband continues to harass the wife.
Dec. 13, answered a call to Pickett Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated someone had stolen scrap metal from his property using a wrecker. The complainant was unable to identify the wrecker service or driver. Thomas Alvin Leggett, 23, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with theft by taking.
Dec. 13, answered a call to Highway 144 in reference to a domestic dispute. A male subject and a female subject are in the process of separating, and are in a dispute over personal belongings. The male subject left the residence.
Dec. 14, answered a call to Dairy Road in reference to a domestic dispute. A male subject and a female subject had an altercation, and an ambulance was dispatched to the residence. Both of the subjects had left the residence before the officer and ambulance arrived.
Dec. 14, answered a call to Willow Lane in reference to a theft. A complainant stated unknown person(s) took a flat screen T.V. from her residence. Investigation continues.
Dec. 14, answered a call to Hatch Parkway in reference to a theft. A complainant stated he left, a four-wheeler, motorcycle, and other items in the care of a friend, while working out of town for about a year. When the complainant returned, friend would not return his belongings.
Dec. 14, answered a call to Ash Street in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated her dryer caught on fire causing minor damage.
Dec. 16, answered a call to Pine Ridge Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated he was the caretaker of the property, and the homeowner lived in Florida. An unknown subject took an air-condition unit from the residence. Investigation continues.
Dec. 16, a complainant came to the Appling County Sheriff’s Office to report a theft. The complainant stated a subject came to his residence for a visit and when subject left he realized his cell phone was missing.
