Sheriff Benny Deloach would like to report the following incidents handled by deputies with the Appling County Sheriff’s Department.
Nov. 26, answered a call to Gardenia Circle in reference to a juvenile complaint. A grandmother has custody of a fourteen-year-old grandchild who is visiting from a facility. The grandchild ran away taking a cell phone. A juvenile complaint form was filed and BOLO was issued for the child. The juvenile was found and returned to the facility.
Nov. 26, answered a call to Ed Carter Road in reference to a domestic dispute. The complainant stated that two subjects were fighting in a vehicle.
Nov. 26, answered a call to Highway 144 in reference to a subject in roadway.
Rodney Mobley, age 46, was arrested and charged with pedestrian under the influence of alcohol.
Nov. 27, answered a call to Lake Ridge Drive in reference to a theft. A complainant stated several tools, valued at approximately $1,300.00, were taken from his residence. Investigation continues.
Nov. 27, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a debit card theft. A complainant stated her debit card was stolen and several large debits had been taken from her account. An investigation revealed that a Justin Michael Yawn, age 32, of Hazlehurst, had used the card. Warrants were secured for Yawn for financial transaction card theft.
Nov. 28, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a theft/forgery. The complainant stated a subject stole a check from her checkbook, and wrote it at Wal-Mart. The complainant later came to the sheriff’s office and stated she wanted to drop the charges and the offender had paid her back the money she had taken.
Nov. 28, answered a call to Nails Ferry Road in reference to an assault. A complainant stated that he and a family member had a verbal dispute, which led to an altercation. Stanford Jose King, age 36, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with battery.
Nov. 29, answered a call to Bethel Church Road in reference to an unresponsive subject. A family member found Timothy Scott Howell, age 39, of Baxley, and he was not breathing. The Appling EMS responded and called the coroner. The coroner ruled that the death was caused by natural causes.
Nov. 29, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a theft. A complainant stated a check had been stolen from her rental mailbox and cashed. Investigation continues.
Nov. 29, answered a call to Graham/Zoar Road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated he found scrap metal loaded in a truck and told subject the metal belonged to him. The subject was taken to the Appling County Detention Center for further investigation.
Nov. 30, answered a call to Blarney Road in reference to trespassing. A complainant stated her boyfriend came to her residence and threatened her and also let the air out of her tires. The boyfriend was advised to stay off of the complainant’s property.
Dec. 1, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a theft by deception incident. The complainant stated he took his Jeep to a subject to have a new transmission and new carburetor put in the vehicle. The complainant found out that an old transmission and old carburetor was put in. The complainant paid around $3,400.00 for the repairs. David Richard Yawn, age 47, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with two counts of theft by deception.
Dec. 2, answered a call to Heath Street in reference to a domestic. A complainant stated a family member came to his residence being unruly and was asked to leave. The family member returned, and was arrested. Chase Van Sharpe, age 20, of Baxley, was charged with disorderly conduct, DUI and driving without headlights when required.
Dec. 2, answered a call to Smith Street in reference to a domestic dispute. A complainant stated a boyfriend was beating his girlfriend. Steven Dane Fletcher, age 40, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with terroristic threats and acts, battery, and cruelty to children.
Sheriff Deloach would like to give a follow-up report to a call on Nov. 17 in reference to credit card fraud in the City of Graham. Lonnie Ryan Crosby, age 33, and Wesley Glynn Rentz, 28, both of Graham, were arrested and charged with four counts of financial transaction card fraud. Both have been released on bond.
