Betty Jean Holton, 71, of Alma, died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at her residence after an extended illness. She was a native of Appling County but had lived in Bacon County most of her life. Betty Jean was daughter of the late Joseph Bazine Bowen and Nora Beatrice Kersey. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Jimmy Bowen, sister, Eileen (Pet) Reynolds and a grandchild, Donovan David Anderson.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Jackie Ray Holton of Alma; one son, Jonathan Ray Holton (Rebecca) of Alma; three daughters, Melissa Holton King (Roy Brent), Melinda Holton Anderson (Timothy David) and Regina Holton Robison (Anthony O’Neal) of Alma; one brother, Donnie Bowen of Baxley; four sisters, Pat Claxton, Nellie Tootle and Jacqueline Siddons of Baxley and Sue Guynn of Brunswick, also seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Big Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenyon Fennell and the Rev. Mark Ledbetter officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
The family received friends at Big Creek Baptist Church Friday evening between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Active pallbearers were Darius Holton, Jon-Jon Holton, Chet Siddons, Brent King, Tim Anderson and Bucky Cauley.
Honorary pallbearers were Senior Sunday School Class of Big Creek and all others in attendance.
Crosby Funeral Home of Alma was in charge of arrangements.
