The Appling County Pirates traveled to face the North Oconee Titans in the second round of the GHSA State Playoffs on Friday, November 19. The Pirates would have great support from fans that made the nearly four-hour trip to watch their Pirates get the victory 26-13 and advance to the third round. The Pirates will now be traveling to Barnesville to face Region 4AA Champion Lamar County (12-0) on Friday, November 25 with the game scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

Pirates going to third round
The victory improves the Pirates record to 11-1 overall and is the first time the Pirates have advanced to the third round since 1999.
Lamar County defeated Blessed Trinity (7-5) 28-14 in the second round and defeated Bleckley County (6-5) 35-14 in the first round to advance to the third round. This will make the second year that Lamar County has faced a team from Region 2AA in the playoffs, losing to McIntosh County Academy 22-14 in the first round in 2010.

The first score of the night came on the Pirates first official offensive play of the game (the Pirates ran a previous play but was called back due to a penalty) on a 91-yard touchdown pass from Lashune Moore to Byron Buxton to make the score 6-0 with the extra point being blocked.
The Titans would get the next score late in the first quarter with a 42-yard field goal to make the score 6-3.
The Pirates answered with their next score early in the second quarter on a 36-yard touchdown pass from Moore to Justin Javis to make the score 12-3 with extra point being blocked.
The Titans added another field goal with 4:49 left in the second quarter to make the score 12-6.
The Pirates scored next on a 60-yard touchdown pass from Moore to Jordan Vann to make the score, with the extra point added by Israel Jaramillo, 19-6 at the half.
The next score of the contest came in the fourth quarter on a touchdown pass by the Titans to make the score 19-13.
The final score of the contest came after a Pirate fumble recovery by CJ Nails at the Titan 27. The Pirates added the touchdown on an amazing lateral from Vann to Buxton for a 19-yard touchdown to make the score 26-13.
Trey Newkirk intercepted his second Titan pass of the contest on the ensuing drive to the give the ball back to the Pirates at their own 45. Moore would take a knee to seal the 26-13 victory.

Hmmmmm.... I might make the trip! Barnesville is a neat small town. Good shopping and good eating!
