Dear Editor and citizens,
At the beginning of October the Relay for Life committee and Appling Healthcare System decided to join forces and Paint the Town Pink to promote breast cancer awareness, to coincide with the Breast Cancer Awareness Month during October. We started by Mayor Steve Rigdon signing a proclamation proclaiming the month of October as “PAINT THE TOWN PINK” month. The pink bows began appearing around the courthouse and down the sidewalk lamp poles. Businesses also joined us by purchasing a bow or two for their business. We would like to say a special thank you to everyone who purchased a bow to help promote breast cancer awareness and giving individuals the opportunity to decide (early detection saves lives) and to go ahead and get those mammograms.

Thanks to everyone involved in making the “Paint the Town Pink” night out event at the Appling Healthcare System/Pavilion dining room such an awesome night. A special thanks is given to Tina Johnson and Robin Crosby and anyone else who helped to make the night successful. You all did an awesome job!
We would like to say thank you to Dr. Cezar and Nichole Lee for coming up with the awesome idea to promote awareness and make a way for women that didn’t have insurance to be able to get mammograms. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of others and for your labor of love!
Thank you Appling County football supporters for wearing pink at the football game last Friday night to support breast cancer awareness. A special thank you is given to a special young man, Cameron Harrelson, a student at Appling County Comprehensive High School, for having the vision to want to make a difference by promoting breast cancer awareness at the football game. We are sure there are many other heroes whether it be at school, in the community or somewhere in this wonderful county we live in that steps up to the plate everyday, the unsung heroes that on a daily basis they are always helping to make a difference in the lives of others around them. We say thank to those we have mentioned and to the unsung heroes as well. You make our lives a lot brighter and our community a better place to live! Thank you for being the person you are.
November 11 is Veterans Day please show your American pride and honor those who have fought and still fighting as well as those who gave everything so we are able to live as a free nation and worship God that has truly blessed us. Let Veterans Day be a reminder that freedom didn’t come without someone willing to make the ultimate sacrifice. God Bless America! God Bless our Veterans and their families.
