Sheriff Benny DeLoach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
On October 14, answered a call to Ellis Road in reference to a domestic dispute. A father and a son had a dispute, which led to an altercation. The son had left the residence before the officers arrived.

Oct. 14, answered a call to U.S. 1 North in reference to an animal problem. The complainant stated her neighbor’s pigs were in her yard doing damage. The neighbor came and got the pigs.
Oct. 14, answered a call to Foster Steadham Road in reference to a domestic dispute. A complainant stated a family member had threatened her and spun a vehicle around in her yard.
Oct. 15, answered a call to Walker Lane in reference to threats. A complainant stated a subject came to her residence, kicked in the door and made threats toward her. The complainant stated she did not want to press charges.
Oct. 15, answered a call to Graham Zoar Road in reference to a domestic dispute. A girlfriend and a boyfriend had a verbal dispute, which led to an assault. The DFAC’s was also notified as a small child was involved. The boyfriend had left the residence before the officer arrived. Warrants were secured for the arrest of Torrence Jones, age 33, of Baxley.
Oct. 15, answered a call to Mae Lane in reference to harassment. A complainant stated her landlord had been harassing her. The landlord had served papers on renter because they were behind on rent and would not move.
Oct. 15, answered a call to David Carter Road in reference to a theft by taking. The complainant stated someone had taken the tin off of their utility building. Investigation continues.
Oct. 15, answered a call to Hilltop Road in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated a subject had damaged the ignition to her car. The complainant was advised to talk with the magistrate judge office.
Oct. 16, answered a call to Mae Lane in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated that her neighbor’s dog had scratched her vehicle.
Oct. 16, on a routine patrol of Deen’s Landing officer found unknown subject(s) had rolled toilet paper around the bathrooms and down the stairs that lead to the boat parking at Deen’s Landing. Also damage was done to the bathrooms. Investigation continues.
Oct. 16, answered a call to Buck Head Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated five antique gas signs and scrap metal were taken from his property. Cole Grant Clements, age 17, of Baxley, and Eric James Hester, age 18, of Baxley, were arrested and charged with theft by taking.
Oct. 16, answered a call to South Main Street of Surrency in reference to a burglary. Michael Keith Overstreet, age 23, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with burglary.
Oct. 17, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a theft on Herrington Road. The complainant stated someone had been coming to his property and stealing his scrap metal, and he found some of his metal at a local business. James Raymond Evans, age 38, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with theft by taking.
Oct. 17, answered a call to Poplar Lane in reference to an unresponsive subject. The family called Appling EMS to Marie Purvis Collins, age 65. Ms. Collins had been under hospice care. Coroner George O’Quinn responded to the residence and pronounced Ms. Collins deceased.
Oct. 17, answered a call to East Parker Street in reference to a theft. A complainant saw two subjects taking batteries from refrigerator units on container trailers that belonged to T&M Equipment. Fredrick Noble, age 19, of Baxley, and Johnny Bryant, age 18, of Baxley, were arrested and charged with theft by taking. Also a juvenile was taken into custody and turned over to the juvenile officer.
Oct. 17, answered a call to Plant Hatch in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated when he got to his vehicle from returning from work he found the passenger side window was busted out.
Oct. 17, answered a call to Bud Miles Road in reference to a theft. Missing from the complainant’s residence were two gold necklaces, valued at $600.00. Investigation continues.
Oct. 18, answered a call to Appling ER in reference to family domestic dispute. A brother and a sister had an altercation with a knife. The brother fell and landed on the knife. The brother stated he did not want to press charges, and stated he was not returning to the residence.
Oct. 18, answered a call to Foster Steadham Road in reference to damage to property incident. A complainant stated unknown person had damaged his mailbox.
Oct. 18, answered a call to Golden Isles West in reference to a burglary. A
back door to a building was found to be open and after the responding officer checked the building, the owner of the building stated nothing appeared to be missing.
Oct. 18, a routine traffic stop in Jeff Davis County by Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Deputies revealed a burglary that had occurred at Southeastern Starter and Alternator in Appling County. Eugene Smith, age 43, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with theft by taking.
Oct. 18, answered a call to Hatch Parkway South in reference to a theft. The complainant stated unknown person(s) took five twenty foot pieces of aluminum pipe, valued at $2,000.00. A warrant has been secured for Christopher Shon Allen, age 35, of Baxley.
Oct. 19, answered a call to Tanglewood Drive in reference to a domestic dispute. A James Brian Kersey, age 36, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
Oct. 20, answered a call to Jimmy Shipes Road in reference to a theft. A
complainant stated taken was a Doc Tree lounge tree climber, valued at $360.00. Investigation continues.
Oct. 20, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a theft that occurred on June, 2011. The complainant stated several pieces of jewelry were stolen and valued at $1,545.00.
