Marie Joyce Collins, 65, died Monday, Oct. 17, 2011 at her residence. Mrs. Collins was born Nov. 29, 1945 in Tift County to the late James William and Nancy Jane McMillan Purvis. She was a member of Memorial Free Will Baptist Church. Marie Joyce was the Girl Scouts Cookie Chairman for six years in Warner Robbins. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ginger Key and Patricia Jones and two brothers, William and Joseph Purvis.
Survivors include her husband, George Collins, Jr. of Baxley; one daughter, Sheila Diane Hersey of Baxley; one son, Cary LaDon Collins of St. Simons Island; three sisters, Betty Burke of Poulan, LaVerne Watkins of Sumner and Pamela (Sam) Spurlock of Funston; three brothers, Wayne Purvis of Albany, Ronnie Purvis of Poulan and Donnie Purvis of Siloam, N.C. and five grandchildren and 28 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21 at Memorial Free Will Baptist Church with the Revs. Amos McMillan, Virgil Carter and Kevin Johnson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Roger Kinnison, Kenny Johnson, Kyle Johnson, Josh Purvis, Daniel Merritt and Pat Purvis.
Honorary pallbearers were Terry Rentz, Gene Mann, Jonathan Mann, James Carter, Bernie Kent and David Brown.
Musical selections were rendered by Virginia Beasley and Freda Jones.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
