Appling County has successfully competed for and received a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) in the amount of $497,379.00 from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.
The grant is for the purpose of sewer and water improvements for the completion of Phase II of Cook Heights Subdivision located in District II of Appling County.

Nearly a half million for local infrastructure
The grant award was presented to the county by Commissioner Mike Beatty and was accepted on behalf of the county by Chairman Lewis Parker, Commissioner Theodore Wilkerson, Commissioner Sarah Boatright, Commissioner Jasper Tomberlin, County Manager Lee Lewis, and County Attorney Bob Highsmith in a ceremony conducted by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs at The Marriott Macon City Center in Macon on September 16.
A total of 92 awards to various cities and counties were recognized on that date. The State CDBG program allows local governments to compete for resources that can be used to assist public-private partnerships that leverage private investment and benefit low and moderate-income persons through economic development, public facilities, public infrastructure and neighborhood revitalization projects.
